OUR STORY

Behind an old farmhouse in Lakewood, Colorado, there are two acres of land. This land has seen, felt, and given more than we’ll ever know. And it speaks – to us, to the animals, to the trees and the grasses, to all who pass by.

At Hestia Field Farm, on these two small acres, our job is to pause and listen for what is needed. We are working to restore and reset an ecosystem that will someday be self-sustaining. Everything on our farm has a role and a purpose in this ecosystem, from the young, twig-like oak tree to the shaggy, horned cows moving through our pastures.

There is a magic, an alchemy, in what we experience at Hestia Field. We all get to ebb and flow with our own rhythms – moments of dormancy followed by a pause to breathe in, and then, on our own divine timing, a large breath out and a bursting of life.

These cycles, though, are bigger than us and what the eye can see. While we practice regenerative agriculture principles at Hestia Field, we do so through a biodynamic lens – a lens that sees planetary and spiritual realms as part of the whole, too.

Meet our farmers

“Rather than focusing on making the land give us what we want, LET’s look for what comes if the land is given what it needs.”

Meet Terri

A third generation Coloradoan, Terri has a draw towards systems and interdependence with a rugged tenacity that has carried generations of her family through the dust bowl, homesteading the Eastern plains and now urban farming a small square of land smack dab in the heart of the city. Raising livestock and growing food have always been of interest to her, but somehow not part of her life’s puzzle until now. She grew up in a small farming community on the Eastern Plains of Colorado, migrating to the front range for education and career opportunities. After more than a decade in the healthcare and bioscience industry, she now looks for ways to improve health and connection through engagement in a self-sustaining food ecosystem.

“my favorite time on the farm is the peace of early morning when the moon is visible, the animals softly quiet, and the rest of the world is still asleep. In these moments, I am reminded that I’m also part of the cycles and stories of this land, and that a life I never imagined is one that I can now not live without. “

MEET CLAIRE

Frequently known to ask, “How is this my life?!” Claire had no plans to live or work on a farm. Raised in the Midwest, she was drawn to both the quiet of the surrounding cornfields and the bustle and energy of Chicago – making this Colorado urban farm a perfect place to land. By day, she’s an academic advisor at a local university, and by all other time unaccounted for, she’s a cosmic farmhand, genealogy enthusiast, and writer. Living in a farmhouse built in 1898, Claire is pulled to the stories and lives of those who walked and tended to the land before her.
